Despite the Dallas Cowboys’ embarrassing loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, team owner Jerry Jones remains steadfast in his support for quarterback Dak Prescott.
During his weekly appearance on 105.3 The FAN, Jones expressed confidence in Prescott’s ability to lead the team to the Super Bowl, despite the quarterback’s challenging performance in the previous game.
In the aftermath of the 42-10 defeat on “Sunday Night Football,” where Prescott threw for 153 yards, faced three interceptions, and endured three sacks, Jones defended his quarterback. He emphasized that Prescott has the potential to guide the team to championship success, dismissing the idea of making significant changes within the team.
Jones acknowledged the team’s poor outing against the 49ers but emphasized Prescott’s capabilities in the radio interview. He rejected the notion of overhauling the team and insisted that Prescott is more than capable of steering the Cowboys toward their desired goals.
“Dak Prescott is a quarterback that can get us to the Super Bowl and that’s the way that’s going to be. I want to be real clear: Dak’s very capable of making this team be where we want it to go,” Jones said during the radio interview. “We should recognize that we had a very bad outing. And San Francisco had a very good outing.
When questioned about the possibility of head coach Mike McCarthy relinquishing playcalling duties to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer if offensive struggles persist, Jones firmly rejected the idea.
The Cowboys’ offensive performance has experienced a decline compared to the previous season, ranking 18th in total yards and eighth in scoring offense after five games in 2023, averaging 26.8 points per game. Despite this, Jones remains resolute in his support for Prescott and the current coaching structure.
As the Cowboys prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers on “Monday Night Football,” Jones stands by his belief in Prescott’s ability to lead the team to success, expressing confidence in the current team setup and dismissing the need for drastic changes.
