Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign has issued a blistering response to former President Donald Trump, accusing him of being too “cowardly” to face her in a debate after Trump’s recent comments questioning the need for one.
During a Fox Business Network interview on Thursday, Trump said he’s uninterested in debating Harris, arguing, “I’m leading in the polls. Everybody knows her, everybody knows me. Why should I debate?” This statement has ignited a fiery response from Harris’s camp.
Cedric Richmond, Co-Chair of Harris for President, fired back, branding Trump as “too afraid” to face Harris and urging him “to man up.”
“He’s got no problem spreading lies and hateful garbage at his rallies or in interviews with right-wing commentators. But he’s apparently too scared to do it standing across the stage from the Vice President of the United States”
He added: “Since he talks the talk, he should walk the walk and – as Vice President Harris said earlier this week – say it to her face on September 10. She’ll be there waiting to see if he’ll show up.”
Harris, in a rally in Atlanta earlier this week, demanded Trump “say it to my face,” ramping up pressure on him to confirm his participation in the scheduled debate. She has been relentless in pushing for a showdown, exchanging sharp barbs with Trump over the debate’s prospects.
To amplify their message, the Democratic National Committee is orchestrating a massive digital blitz starting Saturday, with ads slamming Trump as “afraid to debate” set to dominate in Atlanta and other battleground states.
Trump’s stance on debating Harris has become increasingly ambiguous. After initially claiming he would “absolutely” participate, his campaign later hesitated, suggesting they’d wait until Harris is officially nominated before committing. Trump has even hinted at renegotiating terms, potentially altering the debate format or venue.
Originally, Trump and Biden’s campaigns had agreed to a September 10 debate moderated by ABC News
