A new poll from the Associated Press delivers troubling news for Donald Trump—especially on the very issue that once powered his political rise: the economy.
According to the survey, just 33% of Americans approve of Trump’s overall job performance, marking his lowest rating of his second term so far. A full 67% disapprove, including nearly half—49%—who say they strongly disapprove.
But the most striking numbers come from the economy, long considered Trump’s strongest campaign message. Just 23% of Americans approve of his handling of the cost of living, while a staggering 76% disapprove—suggesting deep frustration over rising prices and economic pressures.
The erosion isn’t limited to Democrats or independents. Even within Trump’s own party, cracks are showing: only 68% of Republicans approve of his performance, while nearly one-third—31%—now disapprove.
The findings highlight a sharp reversal from the narrative that helped fuel Trump’s campaigns, where economic strength was front and center. Now, that same issue appears to be a major liability.
The poll, conducted by the Associated Press in partnership with NORC, surveyed 2,596 U.S. adults between April 16 and April 20, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
According to other polling averages, the trend is clear: dissatisfaction is rising, and the economy is at the center of it.
