Saturday Night Live didn’t hold back in mocking the leaked Signal chat where top Trump officials discussed sensitive national security info. The show’s cold open on Saturday had a field day with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio by throwing them into a group chat with teenage girls.
In the sketch, Andrew Dismukes played Hegseth, who started by typing a message saying, “Who’s ready to glass some Houthi rebels?” He followed it with several flag emojis, a fire emoji, and even an eggplant.
Mikey Madison, playing one of the teen girls, replied, “Do we know you, bro?” Hegseth responded, “Jennabelle from defense, right?” before joking, “Sending a PDF with updated locations of all our nuclear submarines.”
Bowen Yang, playing Vance, joined in from Greenland. He wasn’t sure about the mission but threw in a quote from the Apple TV+ show Severance, saying, “Nobody knows why I’m here, especially me. But praise Trump — our work here is mysterious and important.”
The sketch also poked fun at Hegseth’s past with alcohol, a big topic during his confirmation. Hegseth’s character said, “I’m going to be bad and make myself a Jack and Coke to celebrate. Just the one though!” Vance replied, “You promised to stop drinking when you got the job,” adding, “But it’s like they say in AA — ‘just the one is OK.’”
Then, Rubio, played by Marcello Hernández, was added to the chat. Hegseth excitedly said, “Hold up! Adding Marco! Rubio in the house!”
It all came to a hilarious end when the Trump officials realized they were in the wrong chat. “We’ve been trying to tell you — we’re in high school!” said Ego Nwodim, playing one of the teens. “I think you accidentally added us to a government chat,” Sarah Sherman added.
In response, Rubio jokingly said, “In that case, we were totally pranking you guys, Lol! But would you mind emailing your names and home addresses to Deportations@ICE.gov?”
