Donald Trump managed to turn Lindsey Graham’s funeral into a spectacle, first by making the memorial partly about himself, then by falling asleep before it was over.

During Tuesday’s service at Washington National Cathedral, Trump delivered a eulogy that quickly drifted away from the traditional tone expected at a funeral. Instead of simply honoring the late senator, he veered off script, joking about Graham in front of grieving friends and family and reminding the audience that he once publicly gave out Graham’s cellphone number.

It was an odd moment for what was supposed to be a solemn farewell. But what happened next drew even more attention.

As other speakers took the podium to remember Graham, Trump appeared to struggle to stay awake. Sitting in the front rows, the president’s head repeatedly drooped, his eyes closed for stretches of time, and he occasionally blinked and lifted his head as if trying to fight off sleep.

Video from inside the cathedral quickly spread across social media, with many viewers pointing out that Trump appeared to nod off during the service.

Yup. The guy who has frequently mocked political rivals over their age, energy, and mental sharpness just couldn’t stay awake at a funeral.
