In response to former President Trump’s initiative to sell Bibles, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) delivered a pointed message, urging him to delve into what the Bible says about adultery.
“Happy Holy Week, Donald. Instead of selling Bibles, you should probably buy one,” Cheney wrote in a post on X in response to a screenshot of Trump’s Bible pitch on Truth Social. “And read it, including Exodus 20:14,” pointing to the verse admonishing, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
Trump’s recent fundraising venture involved peddling “God Bless USA” Bibles, in cahoots with country crooner Lee Greenwood, ahead of Easter.
In a clip shared on Truth Social, Trump stressed the need for every American to own a Bible. “It’s my favorite book,” Trump said. “I’m proud to endorse and encourage you to get this Bible. We must make America pray again.”
Trump lamented the lack of religion and Christianity in the country, asserting, “I truly believe that we need to bring them back and have to bring them back fast,” Trump said. “I think it’s one of the biggest problems we have. That’s why our country is going haywire. We’ve lost religion in our country.”
Priced at $60, the King James Bible features lyrics from Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.,” alongside snippets from the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Trump’s past has been marred by accusations of infidelity. In January, he was slapped with an $83.3 million defamation verdict for discrediting E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of sexual assault. Trump also faces a New York criminal trial next month on 34 counts of fudging business records linked to hush payments to Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress, allegedly to conceal an affair. Trump has pled not guilty, owning up to the reimbursements but denying the dalliance.
