A heated exchange unfolded on Fox News Friday when Tommy Vietor, co-host of Pod Save America and former Obama spokesman, accused Pete Hegseth of drinking while on the job and sharing classified military information. The accusation came during a segment on the network, leading to a tense moment between Vietor and the show’s hosts.

Vietor appeared on the show alongside Fox News host Jacqui Heinrich and OutKick founder Clay Travis to discuss remarks made by Tim Walz, the former Democratic vice presidential nominee. Walz suggested that Democrats should double down on identity politics and create a “shadow government.”

Heinrich played clips of Walz’s comments, asking the panel to share their thoughts. She asked Vietor about Walz’s push for a shadow government and whether this should be the direction for the Democratic Party.

However, the conversation quickly shifted when Vietor launched into an attack on Hegseth and Fox News, bringing up the ongoing Signalgate controversy. He accused Hegseth and other Trump administration officials of sharing sensitive military information in a Signal group chat, which had been accidentally joined by journalist Jeffrey Goldberg from The Atlantic.

“All right, Tommy, I just want to start with you between insisting that, you know, the Democrats didn’t do enough to own DEI and immigration, but now also calling for a shadow government,” Heinrich said. “I mean, is this who you want as the face spokesman for the party right now?”

Vietor responded by criticizing Hegseth and Fox News, saying, “A shadow government doesn’t have to be a scary thing. I think he means the British model, where someone waits in the wings for a top government role. But as for DEI, let me tell you who wouldn’t have put classified info about the Houthi bombing in a Signal chat: CQ Brown, who was fired by Pete Hegseth.”

Vietor adeed: “America doesn’t have a DEI problem, we have a competency problem because we have Pete Hegseth at Fox News, who might have been drinking while sharing this classified information. He broke all the rules, put soldiers at risk, and made bad decisions.”

Vietor’s comments visibly irritated Heinrich, who quickly cut him off and accused him of deflecting from the main topic. She then passed the discussion to Clay Travis before abruptly ending the conversation.
