‘You’d Lose and You Know It’: MTG Mocked After Backing Out of Georgia Senate Run

Far right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia, isn’t running for Senate—because, according to her, the Senate is full of spineless Republicans who won’t fight Democrats. That’s the gist of a long-winded post she dropped this week, announcing she’s staying put in the House.

Greene claimed she could “absolutely win” a Georgia Senate seat in 2026, but says it wouldn’t be worth it. “The problem is the current state of the U.S. Senate and the risk of Georgia losing a strong House Republican voice and vote,” she wrote.

What followed was a rant slamming her own party, accusing GOP Senators of letting the left walk all over them.

But her critics didn’t buy her excuse.

“She knows she’d lose to Jon @ossoff. Otherwise, she’d run,” wrote Mathew Helman, a former Massachusetts state rep candidate. “Incompetent dunce @mtgreenee claims that she’d definitely win the #GASen primary & general if she ran, but doesn’t want to run because the Senate is stupid. I’m not even exaggerating or oversimplifying.”

“Long winded way of saying she’s scared to run against Jon Ossoff,” posted political account Blue Georgia.

Zae Brewer, Georgia Young Dems treasurer and a candidate for state representative, said, “In short, you could run but you know you’d lose and you’re trying to cover it up by saying the Senate sucks. Yet just weeks ago you were flattered by the idea of running for Senate?”

For someone who built her brand on being loud and “fearless,” Greene’s decision not to run—and the excuse she gave—struck many as a quiet retreat.
