Donald Trump, known for his provocative statements, is now embroiled in controversy yet again. This time, his ire was directed towards Loren Merchan, the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan involved in a hush money trial. However, it turns out Trump’s outrage was triggered by a case of mistaken identity.
Reports indicate that Trump singled out a social media account allegedly belonging to Loren Merchan. Yet, according to a court spokesperson, the said account doesn’t belongs to her. It was disconnected nearly a year ago, rendering Trump’s accusations baseless.
Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday: “So, let me get this straight, the Judge’s daughter is allowed to post pictures of her ‘dream’ of putting me in jail, the Manhattan D.A. is able to say whatever lies about me he wants, the Judge can violate our Laws and Constitution at every turn, but I am not allowed to talk about the attacks against me, and the Lunatics trying to destroy my life, and prevent me from winning the 2024 Presidential Election, which I am dominating?”
He added; “Maybe the Judge is such a hater because his daughter makes money by working to ‘Get Trump,’ and when he rules against me over and over again, he is making her company, and her, richer and richer. How can this be allowed?”
The spokesperson clarified that the account in question had been inactive for a significant period, and any recent activity was a result of manipulation after Loren Merchan had already abandoned it. Despite this, Trump proceeded to lash out on social media, alleging bias and impropriety.
Trump’s rant on Truth Social accused Judge Merchan’s daughter of harboring ill intentions toward him. He questioned the fairness of the legal proceedings, insinuating a conflict of interest due to Loren Merchan’s alleged profession as a Democratic political consultant.
Trump’s online tirade occurred shortly after Judge Merchan imposed a gag order on the former president regarding comments about witnesses, prosecutors, and court personnel or their families. However, the order did not restrict Trump from criticizing the judge or the Manhattan District Attorney involved in the case.
Judge Merchan, in justifying the gag order, cited Trump’s specific attacks on his daughter as contributing factors. While initially opting for a mere admonishment, the judge deemed Trump’s remarks severe enough to warrant formal restrictions.
Trump is facing 34 counts of alleging misconduct related to the reimbursement of hush money payments to adult star Stormy Daniels. The case is scheduled for trial on April 15. Trump maintains his innocence amidst mounting legal challenges.
