Donald Trump is facing backlash after posting what critics are calling an “absolutely demented” message in response to the hospitalization of his longtime ally, Rudy Giuliani.
Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and one of Trump’s most loyal defenders, was hospitalized in Florida on Sunday, according to a report from The New York Times. While details about his condition remain limited, a spokesperson said he is in “critical but stable” condition.
Rather than focusing solely on Giuliani’s health, Donald Trump used the moment to launch into familiar grievances about the 2020 election in a Truth Social post that quickly drew outrage.
“Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition,” Trump wrote. “What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”
The post immediately sparked criticism, with observers blasting Trump for turning a medical emergency into a platform for repeating debunked election claims.

Journalist Aaron Rupar called the statement “absolutely demented,” writing that Trump’s loss in the 2020 election has “nothing to do with Giuliani’s health problems.”
Others echoed that sentiment. Political commentator Elaina McCartney pointed out that dozens of court challenges related to the 2020 election were unsuccessful, adding that some attorneys involved have since faced professional consequences.
Another commentator, Xavier Gonzalez, criticized Trump’s response more bluntly: “Everything always has to be about him.”
The controversy highlights ongoing concerns about Trump’s tendency to inject personal and political grievances into moments that might otherwise call for restraint, drawing renewed scrutiny from critics across the political spectrum.
