In court documents filed Tuesday, former president Trump has filed is asking a federal judge to “to slow down” House investigators’ access to White House records pertaining to the January 6 insurrection, Politico reports.
Citing a 33-page motion, the news outlet reported that Trump is requesting the court conduct a “document-by-document review” of White House records sought by the Jan 6 Panel investigating the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol.
In the request, Trump lawyer Jesse Binnall also continued to push Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ about the 2020 election, claiming without evidence that “both the FBI and Senate have confirmed that there was no coordinated effort, including at the White House, to overturn the election on January 6,” the site reported.
Additionally, Politico cited an August report by Reuters asserting that “the FBI had so far found ‘scant’ evidence that there was a broader conspiracy beyond small pockets of militia groups.” Binnall cited that report as evidence of his claim. However, Politico noted that “the FBI has not affirmed this conclusion, and the Jan. 6 committee explicitly rejected this contention.”
The documents Trump wants to withhold from investigators include “records pulled from senior aides like former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former adviser Stephen Miller and former counsel Patrick Philbin. They also include speech drafts, as well as call and visitor logs,” politico reports, citing The National Archives brief authored by Justice Department attorneys.
