The Daily Show host Jon Stewart tore into President Donald Trump on Monday night, mocking his comments about children’s needs during a Meet the Press interview with Kristen Welker.
Trump, speaking on NBC News, said kids don’t need more than three or four dolls and five pencils—remarks that Stewart couldn’t let slide.
“I’m really trying, in this new Trump media world, to not get too worked up,” Stewart said, setting the stage for his rant. “But let me tell you something. I have an 11-year-old niece who loves dolls. I was planning to get her 20 or 30 for her birthday—just to see her happy. That’s priceless.”
But Trump had other ideas. Stewart showed a clip of Trump saying, “I don’t think a beautiful, baby girl that’s 11 years old needs to have 30 dolls.”
“I’m really trying hard to not get too worked up about the endless flood of Trump nonsense,” Stewart began, setting the stage for his roasting. “But let me tell you something. I have an 11-year-old niece who loves dolls. I was planning to get her 20 or 30 dolls for her birthday—just to see her face light up. You can’t put a price tag on that.”
But Trump, in his typical style, had a completely different perspective. Stewart showed a clip of Trump saying, “I don’t think a beautiful, baby girl that’s 11 years old needs to have 30 dolls.”
Stewart immediately jumped in, mocking Trump: “First of all, we don’t call 11-year-olds ‘baby girls,’” he quipped. “And second of all, you don’t get to decide what she needs! She’s been through a lot this year! How many dolls would you get her, Mr. President? What’s the ‘appropriate’ number?”
Trump’s answer was just as ridiculous. “I think they can have three dolls or four dolls,” he said.
Stewart, still incredulous, fired back, “You know what? Dolls aren’t the only thing that makes her happy. She also loves taking standardized tests. So, I was thinking of getting her a ‘Baby’s First SAT’ kit, complete with Scantron sheets and 250 pencils. She’s gonna be so pumped!”
Then came the ultimate moment of absurdity. Trump insisted, “They don’t need to have 250 pencils. They can have five.”
That was enough to send Stewart over the edge. “Motherfucker! How dare you?” he shouted.
Stewart’s take? Trump has absolutely no clue what kids actually need, and it’s pretty clear he’s just making up rules about childhood based on his own warped sense of reality.
The segment ended with Stewart’s signature mix of humor and outrage, showing once again that Trump’s views on the everyday lives of ordinary people are way off base.
