Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger, of Illinois, told President Donald Trump on Wednesday night to “delete your account” after the president tweeted a link to a 45-minute speech in which he repeated baseless claims of widespread voter fraud in the election.
“Time to delete your account,” responded Kinzinger, who represents Illinois’ 16th District.
Kinzinger has referred to Trump’s election-fraud claims as baseless conspiracy theories.
“The @FBI did not rig the election. If you find yourself believing they did, please stop, and say it out loud, and you will realize how silly it sounds,” he tweeted over the weekend, adding that Trump was “simply flooding the zone with baseless conspiracies again.”
Support for Trump’s questioning the election result has faded in his inner circle as a growing number of Republicans are calling out the president’s baseless claims about the election.
The Trump campaign has filed several lawsuits in key states and continued to claim, without evidence, that widespread voter fraud cost him the presidential election.
Trump’s legal challenges have been unsuccessful as his lawyers have failed to provide evidence to support their allegations.
