Infowar host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has reportedly filed for bankruptcy protection in a lawsuit brought by relatives of children killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre, Bloomberg reported Monday.
According to the news outlet, three companies owned by the right-wing radio host Alex Jones, including the controversial Infowars website, sought Chapter 11 protection in Victoria, Texas, on Sunday. Each estimated liabilities of as much as $10 million, Bloomberg reported, citing court filings. Chapter 11 filings allow a business to keep operating while working on a turnaround plan and pause pending civil litigation.
Jones is facing huge legal payouts after claiming that the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, in which a gunman shot and killed 26 people, was a “hoax” and that the dead children were “actors.”
As noted by Bloomberg, Chapter 11 filings “allow a business to keep operating while working on a turnaround plan and pause pending civil litigation.”
Sandy Hook families suing Jones accused Jones of moving millions of dollars into shell companies, in an attempt to stay out of reach of the courts.
