President Donald Trump announced Monday that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire. But Iran says that’s not true.

At 6 p.m. Eastern, Trump posted on Truth Social: “CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!”

Trump claimed Iran would begin the ceasefire first, followed by Israel, with a full stop to fighting within 24 hours.

“During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL,” he added.

He referred to the conflict as the “12 DAY WAR,” calling it a crisis that could have “destroyed the entire Middle East.”

“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!” Trump wrote.

He closed with: “God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”

But Iranian officials quickly shot down the claim, saying no ceasefire proposal was ever received, and saw no reason for one.

Speaking to CNN, one Iranian official said: “At this very moment, the enemy is committing aggression against Iran, and Iran is on the verge of intensifying its retaliatory strikes, with no ear to listen to the lies of its enemies.”

Iran’s denial came as Israel was still carrying out airstrikes inside Iranian territory. There was no pause in fighting at the time Trump made his announcement.

Trump didn’t give details on how the ceasefire was supposedly reached, or whether other countries helped broker it.

The situation escalated over the weekend after Iran fired missiles at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. No one was hurt. In response, the U.S. struck three Iranian nuclear sites — a move Trump authorized.

Earlier on Monday, Trump had posted: “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!”

He also thanked Qatar for “seeking Peace for the Region.”

Despite Trump’s message, there’s no sign that Iran agreed to anything. For now, the fighting continues — and the ceasefire Trump declared hasn’t materialized.
