Democratic strategist James Carville believes the Trump administration will “collapse” within the next 30 days due to the public’s reaction to recent actions by the president’s team.
Carville shared his thoughts during a conversation with Mediaite’s Dan Abrams, where he explained that the administration is facing a sharp decline in public opinion.
“I believe that this administration, in less than 30 days is in the midst of a massive collapse and particularly a collapse in public opinion,” Carville said.
When Abrams asked Carville to confirm if he truly thought the administration would fall apart soon, Carville responded, “It’s collapsing right now. We’re in the midst of a massive collapse. This is the lowest approval, not even close, that any president has ever had at a comparable time.”
One of the key actions behind the falling approval is the administration’s effort to reduce federal spending through a new project led by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This has caused concern, with thousands of federal workers losing their jobs. DOGE is looking into different government agencies and may be able to access sensitive information.
There is also noticeable tension between some of President Trump’s closest allies. Musk and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) asked federal employees to report their work achievements from the previous week, but some agencies have refused to comply.
Carville also pointed out that Trump’s approval rating has dropped significantly. He mentioned one poll where Trump’s approval fell from the low 50s to the upper 30s, and he predicted it will continue to decline in the coming weeks.
In addition, Carville doesn’t think Republicans will be able to pass a package to address the country’s debt. He believes GOP leaders will need to work with House Democrats to get something done, which he thinks will surprise many Americans.
“I think they know exactly what they’re doing and they know exactly what’s going to happen,” Carville said. “I’ve never been mistaken.”
This isn’t the first time Carville has predicted a collapse of the Trump administration. Just last week, he told Fox News’s “Hannity” that Democrats don’t need to be overly aggressive in opposing Trump because his approval numbers already show a collapse is on the way.
