Lindsey Graham’s Senate Seat Now In Play As Dem Challenger Raises $14 Million In 2nd Quarter

Republican senators are facing a difficult road ahead of the November elections as Democrats have posted huge gains in the second fundraising quarter, according to FEC numbers released this week. Topping that list is Jaime Harrison, who more than doubled his first quarter haul to bring in $13.9 million in his bid to unseat Sen. Lindsey Graham in South Carolina.

Harrison, the former chair of South Carolina’s Democratic Party, raised $7.36 million in the first fundraising quarter of the year to Graham’s $3.9 million at that time. Graham hasn’t shared his Q2 numbers yet. White it’s shaping out to be a close election, the Cook Political Report predicts Graham is likely to retain his seat.

However, a potential male prostitution scandal reported by the Daily Boulder could cost Graham his seat in the November election, and the Republican majority in the Senate at the same time.

Meanwhile, Montana Gov. Steve Bullock meanwhile more than doubled his Q1 fundraising haul to bring in $7.7 million as he challenges Sen. Steve Daines (R). Sara Gideon, challenging Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), brought in $2 million more than Q1 for a total of $9 million. And Cal Cunningham, who’s looking to replace Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), set a state record by bringing in $7.4 million.

Democrats are now within striking distance to take the majority in the Senate this fall. They need to gain four seats to send McConnell back to the minority.
