Steve Bannon, a leading figure in the MAGA movement, is raising alarms after a major defeat in Wisconsin. Following the loss of a conservative judge’s bid for the state Supreme Court, Bannon is predicting that President Donald Trump could soon face impeachment.
On his War Room show, Bannon could barely contain his frustration as he tried to make sense of the election results. He was particularly baffled that, while Wisconsin passed voter ID laws—something that had been heavily debated—the state still elected Judge Susan Crawford, a Democrat-backed candidate, to the Supreme Court.
“Voter ID won big league,” Bannon noted, referring to the successful passage of the voter ID requirement in Wisconsin. “Yet we lost the Supreme Court seat, and with that, we’re going to lose two congressional seats. That’s just a fact.”
Bannon asserted that Democrats spent over $100 million in this race, which he believes was aimed at securing those two congressional seats. If Democrats succeed, he warns, it could push Republicans to the brink of losing control in Washington.
“These radical Democrats didn’t put this money in to just lose. They’re going for those two seats,” he said. “And those two seats put us right on the edge of trying to impeach President Trump.”
Bannon’s frustration didn’t end there. He also questioned how Republicans could win on voter ID, but still lose the race so decisively. “We got blown out, I guess, by 10 points or 9 points. How does that happen?” he asked.
Wisconsin GOP Chair Brian Schimming, meanwhile, placed the blame for the loss squarely on the Republican Party’s outdated strategy.
“The old playbook—saying, ‘We’re the law enforcement party, and they’re the anti-law enforcement party’—is worn out,” Schimming explained.
With the stakes higher than ever, Bannon believes that this defeat in Wisconsin will have serious consequences for the 2026 elections, and could ultimately lead to Trump’s impeachment. As he put it, “It raises the stakes in 2026 even higher.”
