Amid intense anxiety ahead of next weeks’ presidential inauguration and fears of a repeat of the violence and chaos that reverberated across the world, America’s most senior general Mark Milley and the entire Joint Chiefs of Staff, which is comprised of the heads of each military branch, issued a rare statement condemning the violent takeover of the US Capitol last week and confirming Joe Biden as the next commander-in-chief.
In their statement, the military leaders remind service members of their obligation to support and defend the Constitution and reject extremism
“As service members, we must embody the values and ideals of the nation,” said the statement issued by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
“We support and defend the constitution. Any act to disrupt the constitutional process is not only against our traditions, values and oath; it is against the law.”
