Actress Jennifer Aniston has fired back at JD Vance with searing criticism after his disparaging comments about “childless cat ladies” in Washington, in an attack aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris and others without children, suggesting they were unfit to govern America.
Aniston, known for her candidness about her fertility struggles, lambasted Vance on Instagram, incredulous that such divisive rhetoric could come from a prospective Vice President.
“I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States,” the “Friends” star wrote on her Instagram story Wednesday.
Aniston highlighted Vance’s remarks from a 2021 appearance on Tucker Carlson’s show, where he claimed that the Democratic party and corporate elites were controlled by people who, in his words, “don’t really have a direct stake” in the country because they are childless.
“You look at Kamala Harris, [Transportation Secretary] Pete Buttigieg, [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)]: The entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children, and how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?” Vance said.
Directly addressing Vance, Aniston posted a pointed message to her millions of followers, expressing her hope that his own daughter would never face the challenges she endured with in vitro fertilization. She accused Vance of not only undermining reproductive rights but also attempting to strip away options for future generations of women.
“I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to [in vitro fertilization] as a second option,” Aniston, 55, said. “Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.” Aniston, 55, said.
Aniston, who struggled for years to conceive, openly discussed her fertility journey in a 2022 interview, emphasizing the hardships she faced on the “baby-making road.” Vance’s stance on reproductive issues, including his support for overturning Roe v. Wade and his approval of Texas’s restrictive abortion laws, clashed starkly with Aniston’s advocacy for reproductive freedom.
The clash between Aniston and Vance underscores a broader national debate over reproductive rights and the role of personal experience in shaping policy.
During his Senate bid, Vance expressed support for the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and for Texas’s ban on abortion.
Senate Republicans recently blocked legislation aimed at securing a national right to assisted reproductive technologies, further fueling tensions on the issue.
Aniston’s outspoken condemnation of Vance reflects a broader national debate over reproductive rights and the implications of Republican policies on the lives and choices of women across America.
