Following President Joe Biden’s uneven press conference, concerns are growing in Trumpworld that Democrats may have a strong replacement lined up if Biden withdraws from the 2024 race.
Biden is facing mounting pressure to step aside following his poor debate performance on June 27. However, he’s finding support from an unexpected quarter — Trumpworld.
Former President Donald Trump and his allies, preparing for a potential rematch with Biden this November, are cautiously watching developments surrounding Biden’s candidacy, and indications suggest his family and campaign team are rooting for Biden to remain his opponent.
“I think he’s doing OK enough to stay. The press, I think their mission was to try to get him out with this, but I don’t think they are going to,” Donald Trump Jr. remarked in a livestream on Thursday.
Trump Jr. elaborated further on his podcast, “Triggered with Don Jr.,” offering both criticism and begrudging praise.
“I don’t think anyone wants to call this guy at an emergency at 3 o’clock in the morning but you know, he did an hour. It’s almost an hour,” Trump Jr. said. “I think he did better than I actually thought he was going to do. I don’t think it was a great job by any means, but I think it’s a big one,” he said near the end of the podcast.
Trump’s team believes it will be increasingly difficult for the Democratic Party to remove Biden from the ticket and harbor hopes that Trump could achieve a landslide victory if Biden remains his opponent.
Additionally, a Trump advisor, speaking anonymously to Politico, characterized Biden’s situation as “Democrats’ worst nightmare unfolding,” suggesting Biden’s performance might quell internal calls for his replacement.
“Democrats’ worst nightmare is unfolding,” the advisor told Politico. “He gave us enough new material and may stave off his insurrection.”
The Trump campaign had expressed a preference for facing Biden even before Biden’s troubled debate.
Campaign advisor Susie Wiles referred to Biden as a “gift” in an interview with The Atlantic’s Tim Alberta in mid-June, published Wednesday.
Trump himself dismissed Democratic concerns at a campaign event in Florida, asserting, “Despite all the Democrat panic this week, the truth is, it doesn’t matter who they nominate—because we are going to beat ANY ONE of them in a thundering landslide this November.”

While Biden remains steadfast about his 2024 bid, at least 16 House Democrats and one Democratic senator have urged him to step aside following his lackluster debate performance.
Meanwhile, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, while not explicitly calling for Biden’s removal, refrained from endorsing him as the party’s candidate.
“It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run. We’re all encouraging him to make that decision. Because time is running short,” Pelosi said during an interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday.
