Trump’s $14 million reflecting pool turns green. The White House blames Obama

Donald Trump promised Americans an “American flag blue” Reflecting Pool. What he got instead was… a giant green puddle.

Just days after the Trump administration finished a heavily promoted $14 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, the familiar green algae came roaring back, turning the water into something that looked less like a patriotic monument and more like an abandoned golf course pond.

But rather than simply admitting that algae is a normal maintenance issue, Team Trump did what Team Trump always does when something goes embarrassingly wrong: They blamed Barack Obama.

In a statement to the New York Post, a Department of the Interior spokesperson insisted the green mess wasn’t a failure at all. In fact, they claimed their fancy new technology had already killed the algae and workers were vacuuming it up.

Then came the obligatory Obama jab. The spokesperson pointed to algae problems that occurred after a reopening during the Obama administration, apparently because no Trump-era embarrassment is complete without dragging Obama into the conversation somehow.

“The nanobubbler technology has successfully destroyed the algae bloom that has plagued every pool reopening since 1922, most infamously, the Obama pool reopening that resulted in massive algae clumps taking over the pool’s surface,” the spokesperson said. “Now, due to deploying the advanced nanobubbler technology, the algae is dead and being vacuumed up as we speak.”

Think about that for a second. Trump spends $14 million refurbishing the Reflecting Pool. The water turns green almost immediately. And their first instinct is to point fingers at a president who left office nearly a decade ago.

At this point, blaming Obama has become less of a political strategy and more of a reflex.

According to federal contracting records, the administration spent another $1.7 million on a high-tech ozone nanobubbler filtration system designed to stop algae blooms before they start. Yet despite all the futuristic-sounding gadgets and taxpayer dollars, the public was still greeted by a pool that looked suspiciously like algae had won the battle.

Administration officials insist there’s no problem.

National Park Service officials told CNN that the algae had simply been dormant during construction and that its reappearance was part of a normal startup process. The new filtration system, they say, will eventually keep the water clean.

Maybe. But that’s not exactly the image Trump was selling when he boasted about creating a gleaming patriotic showpiece ahead of his July 4 celebration.

In a Truth Social post, Trump hyped what he called the biggest “TRIBUTE TO AMERICA” event imaginable, complete with military bands, patriotic music, and his personal playlist — because apparently no national celebration is complete without a presidential DJ set.

The Reflecting Pool was supposed to serve as the sparkling centerpiece.

Instead, the rollout has become a perfect metaphor for so much of modern Trumpism: spend millions on a flashy rebrand, declare victory before the job is finished, and then blame Obama when reality refuses to cooperate.

The algae, meanwhile, remains stubbornly unconvinced by political messaging. It just keeps showing up.
