Former President Donald Trump erupted in frustration during a live Fox News interview on Thursday night, vehemently denying that Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining momentum in the polls. Trump’s outburst came in response to Harris’s acceptance speech at the Democratic convention, which he criticized heavily on Truth Social and during his Fox News appearance.
Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum pointed out Harris’s recent polling gains, especially among women, Black voters, and young voters. She asked Trump how he intended to regain support from these key demographics.
Trump, clearly irritated, responded, “No, she’s not having success. I’m having success. I’m doing great with Hispanic voters, Black men, and women because women want safety.” He further dismissed MacCallum’s observations, insisting, “It’s only in your eyes that they have that. We’re doing very well in the polls.”
Despite Trump’s insistence, polling data shows Harris has erased his lead over President Joe Biden. Recent surveys indicate Harris is leading Trump in five out of seven crucial battleground states, with the Cook Political Report shifting several races in her favor.
During the interview, Trump’s defensive posture was evident as he criticized Harris for not addressing key issues like immigration and inflation more effectively during her vice presidency.
“The biggest reaction is why didn’t she do the things that she’s complaining about,” Trump said, dismissing her speech as ineffective.
Trump also attempted to distance himself from Project 2025, a conservative policy proposal from the Heritage Foundation. Trump denied any connection or interest in the document after Harris speech.
“She knows I have nothing to do with Project 25,” Trump said. “They throw it out. A group of people got together. They did a thing. I haven’t even seen it. I don’t want to see it.”
Trump’s combative response and refusal to acknowledge Harris’s growing support highlight his resistance to accepting the evolving political dynamics as the election approaches.
