Trump says he could have done ‘very bad things’ to Obama, Clinton and Biden when asked about impeachment

Donald Trump appears to be bracing for a Democratic takeover in November and is warning that Democrats could impeach him if they win back Congress.

And then, while explaining why, he volunteered that he could have done “very bad things” to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.

Trump made the comments when reporters asked what Democrats might impeach him for if they take back the House and Senate in November.

His answer took an unexpected turn.

“I could have done very bad things to Hillary Clinton. I could have done very, very bad things to Joe Biden,” Trump said.

Then he brought up Obama.

“I could have done very bad things to Barack Hussein Obama,” Trump said.

Trump then explained why he hadn’t done whatever those “very bad things” were.

“I thought it was inappropriate to do so because you have to treat the office of the presidency with respect,” he said, describing the presidency as “sacred.”

Trump didn’t identify any specific action he believes Democrats would impeach him for.

Instead, he pointed to the things he says he could have done to three of his most prominent political opponents — and said he chose not to do them because he believed the presidency should be treated with respect.

But the impeachment warning itself is nothing new.

Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson have repeatedly told Republican voters that Democrats would move to impeach Trump if they regain control of Congress in the midterms.

Trump has already been through that twice.

He was impeached by the House in 2019 after his pressure campaign on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

Then, in January 2021, the House impeached Trump again following the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Trump was acquitted by the Senate in both cases and remained in office after the first impeachment.

Now he’s warning that Democrats could do it again.

But Trump’s comments added a whole different twist to the argument.

Basically, he was saying, Democrats may be getting ready to come after me if they win, but I could have done a lot worse to their former leaders.

So was Trump sending Democrats a message? I showed restraint when I had the chance to go after your guys. Maybe you could cut me a break here.
