Former President Donald Trump railed against “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert after the comedian branded him “boring” in a recent PBS interview.
“I briefly watched an interview of Stephen Colbert on highly government subsidized PBS, and found it fascinating for only one reason — Why would they be wasting time and the public’s money on this complete and total loser?,” Trump vented on his Truth Social account late Tuesday. “He is not funny, which he gets paid far too much to be, he is not wise, he is VERY BORING, and his show is dying from a complete lack of viewers.”
In a clear jab at Colbert’s dwindling ratings, Trump lauded Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, asserting that Gutfeld is “killing” Colbert in the ratings war.
“CBS should terminate his contract and pick almost anyone, right off the street, who would do better, and for FAR LESS MONEY,” Trump continued. “Or I could recommend someone, much more talented, and smarter, who would do it for FREE! The good news for Stephen is that the two DOPES on NBC & ABC are not much better than him!”
During his PBS Newshour sit-down, Colbert was asked if he would consider inviting Trump back to his show, which he’s helmed since 2014. Colbert bluntly replied, “I’ve had him before, and he was kind of boring, so no. I don’t like to have people on the show who I don’t think are gonna be honest agents of their own ideas.”
Colbert went on to declare that many politicians aren’t worth his time, especially those who merely play to the crowd. “That’s just no fun,” he said.
Trump’s attacks on late-night hosts, including Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel, have become a recurring theme in his post-presidency commentary. Last week, he engaged in a wide-ranging discussion with Gutfeld, promoting the Fox program as a formidable right-wing alternative to the mainstream late-night shows.
