Donald Trump has issued a sharp threat to Comcast, accusing the media giant of trying to distance itself from MSNBC to avoid lawsuits over what he calls ‘unfair’ coverage of him.
“Comcast, which also has the ailing network known as NBC, is trying to stay away from lawsuits by disassociating NBC from MSNBC, but it won’t work,” Trump posted on Truth Social late Tuesday. “Comcast, the owner of both, and its Chairman, Brian Roberts, are a disgrace to the integrity of Broadcasting!!!”
Trump’s anger toward Comcast comes as he’s embroiled in legal battles with several major media companies. He’s currently suing Paramount, the parent company of CBS News, over a “60 Minutes” segment featuring former Vice President Kamala Harris. He also won a defamation lawsuit against ABC News last year after a false claim made by one of its anchors.
Trump has repeatedly gone after NBC, ABC, and CBS for their coverage of him, even suggesting that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should revoke their broadcast licenses.
Trump’s ties with Comcast and its chairman, Brian Roberts, go back years. After rising to fame as a real estate mogul and socialite, Trump became a household name with NBC’s “The Apprentice.” His success on the show helped propel him into the presidency in 2016.
Recently, the president has targeted MSNBC anchors and last week criticized segments on “Meet The Press” as being “biased” against him.
Meanwhile, Comcast has been restructuring. Last year, the company announced plans to spin off its cable channels, including MSNBC, as it shifts focus to digital and streaming platforms amid losses in traditional TV.
