Former President Trump is under fire echoing dangerous Adolph Hitler’s rhetoric as he suggests that a potential loss in the 2024 presidential election would largely fall on the American Jewish community. Speaking at events aimed at combating antisemitism, Trump claimed that the 60 percent of Jewish Americans who support Kamala Harris are voting for the “enemy,” expressing concern over his own 40 percent approval within this demographic.
At a recent “Fighting Antisemitism” event hosted by prominent Republican donor Miriam Adelson in Washington, D.C., Trump stated, “In my opinion, the Jewish people would have a lot to do with a loss, if I’m at 40 percent.” His comments were reiterated at the Israeli American Conference, where he warned that if he were to lose, “Israel will cease to exist in two years.”
These remarks have sparked outrage among various political and community leaders. Amy Spitalnick, CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, emphasized that using Jews as political pawns jeopardizes their safety. “Dividing Jews into ‘good’ and ‘bad’ camps normalizes antisemitism,” she noted.
Critics, including former Trump administration official Alyssa Farah Griffin, highlighted the alarming nature of Trump’s comments, arguing that similar statements from any other politician would have ended their careers. Andrew Weinstein, a Jewish Democrat and former UN delegate, labeled Trump’s rhetoric as “vile and dangerous.”
In a follow up post, she added: “This is a dog whistle to White Nationalists to blame / target Jewish Americans if Trump loses.”
“If any other national politician said: “the Jewish people would have a lot to do with a loss” – to preemptively blame Jews for a potential loss- their career & candidacy would be over. How people continue to ignore this is scary,” Farah Griffin wrote on X.
Likewise, Common Defense, a grassroots veterans’ organization, called Trump’s remarks “antisemitic rhetoric” that endangers Jewish lives.
“Donald Trump is now saying the ‘Jewish people’ will be to blame if he loses the election. This is disgusting and, more importantly, dangerous. Antisemitic rhetoric like this puts Jewish lives at risk, and all Americans should be outraged,” the group said in a statement on X.
Other users were more blunt on their criticism.
“And yet this, this degenerate is what the Republicans chose as their presidential candidate… incredible,” user Anthony Borrelli wrote.
User @NeilNRockville replied: “To translate Trump’s speech: “Nice synagogues you got here…shame if something happened to them…”
“Sounds like Trump is threatening the Jewish community. Trump is associated with white supremacist, who hate the Jewish people. Trump is blaming his loss on everyone he dislikes in hopes that the army he thinks he built will go after his enemies. Trump is campaigning on losing!” user @Gypsymoon_17 warned.
