President Donald Trump is furious after Jeanine Pirro abruptly abandoned the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool criminal case, prompting the president to publicly accuse her of “choking” and lash out at the judge who oversaw it.
Speaking to reporters Monday, Trump didn’t hide his frustration with Pirro, his hand-picked U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, after she dropped criminal charges against a former Olympian accused of damaging the Reflecting Pool.
“Frankly, I think she choked,” Trump said. “I don’t know what the hell happened.”
But Pirro wasn’t the only target of Trump’s anger.
The president also blasted the judge in the case, calling the jurist “vicious” as he vented over the collapse of a prosecution that had become a political flashpoint.
Things only got more heated when a second reporter asked whether Trump was reconsidering Pirro’s future as the top federal prosecutor in Washington.
Trump immediately erupted.
“Don’t ever talk again,” he snapped. “You’re fake news, one of the worst in the business. Fortunately nobody watches you.”
Behind the scenes, the president’s frustration may be even worse than what cameras captured.
According to CNN, sources familiar with the situation say Trump is “furious” with Pirro, and it’s now “highly likely” she’ll be removed from her position.
Trump wasn’t finished. Returning to the subject moments later, he mocked Pirro again, saying she “folded like an umbrella”, a remarkable public rebuke of one of his own appointees and longtime allies.
