A Grand Jury in Washington, C.D. has indicted Proud Boy leader Enrique Tarrio and four other members of the far-right extremist on “seditious conspiracy ” charges in connection with their role in the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol.
In court documents, prosecutors said that while Tarrio was not present on the Capitol grounds during the insurrection, he helped coordinate the violent effort to block Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 election in order to keep then-president Donald Trump in power.
As the attack unfolded, Tarrio reportedly posted “Proud of my boys and my country” on social media, according to NPR.
The indictment comes as the House Select Committee investigating the Jan 6 insirrection is set to hold its first public hearing on what it has found so far.
Besides Tarrio, the grand jury indicted Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl and Dominic Pezzola, NPR reports.
The group was also charged with conspiracy to prevent officers from carrying out their duties.
All five men have been detained and have pleaded not guilty.
