In 2018, Meghan Markle married Prince Harry, but prior to this royal union, she was married to film producer Trevor Engelson. Their marriage lasted for three years before coming to an end. However, Meghan’s reported manner of ending the marriage surprised a royal author, who included the details of their breakup in a 2018 book about the Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan’s first marriage came to a close in 2014.
Andrew Morton, the author of books like “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess” and “Diana: Her True Story,” disclosed insights from sources close to Meghan and Trevor’s relationship. According to the book, Meghan’s decision to end the marriage came as a complete surprise.
Meghan and Trevor had dated for seven years before tying the knot in Jamaica, but it was Meghan who initiated the separation, as per Morton’s account.
In “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess,” Morton wrote that Meghan ended her first marriage swiftly, even sending her diamond engagement and wedding rings back to Trevor via registered mail, as attested by a wealthy entrepreneur friend.
Meghan Markle and Trevor Engelson first crossed paths when she was 23 and he was 28. After dating for six years, they got engaged in 2010.
Their wedding took place a year later at the Jamaica Inn resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on a private beach. It was a laid-back four-day celebration attended by more than 100 guests. Meghan reportedly wore a strapless column-style gown that matched the relaxed beach atmosphere, where guests partied for hours.
Meghan and Trevor’s marriage came to an end two years after their wedding, and in 2013, they were reportedly granted a no-fault divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason.
Distance played a role in their separation, with Trevor based in California while Meghan, who had recently landed her role in the TV series “Suits,” moved to Vancouver for filming.
In 2016, three years after her divorce from Trevor was finalized, Meghan was introduced to Prince Harry by a mutual friend, Violet von Westenholz. They first met for drinks at London’s SoHo house in the summer of that year.
Their relationship progressed quickly, culminating in a trip to Botswana, Africa, on their third date, where they spent a week getting to know each other.
Over a year later, Meghan and Harry made their official debut as a couple at the Toronto Invictus Games in 2017, and in November of the same year, they announced their engagement.
Harry and Meghan exchanged vows in May 2018 and welcomed their son, Prince Archie, in May 2019, followed by their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021.
