The Wyoming Republican Party on Saturday voting overwhelmingly to censure U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney over her vote to impeach former President Donald Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 siege at the U.S. Capitol. But they are not stopping there. They are now calling on her to resign “immediately” and to repay past donations from the party.
“The Wyoming State GOP Party voted MOMENTS AGO to formally censure Liz Cheney for her vote to impeach Trump in the latest example of state Republican parties punishing lawmakers who have gone against supporting the former president,” CNN’s Daniella Diaz reported Saturday.
“They are also calling on her to ‘immediately’ resign and the party intends to ‘withhold any future political funding’ from her. The motion also called on her to repay donations from the state GOP and any county Republican Parties to her 2020 re-election campaign,” she noted.
Cheney issued a statement in response to the censure vote.
“My vote to impeach was compelled by the oath I swore to the Constitution. Wyoming citizens know that this oath does not bend or yield to politics or partisanship,” Cheney said.
