Top Democrats are turning up the heat on Kash Patel, launching a congressional investigation into explosive allegations of alcohol abuse and demanding he prove he’s fit to lead the nation’s top law enforcement agency.
In a sharply worded letter, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee—led by Jamie Raskin—called on Patel to complete a “gold-standard” alcohol screening test and turn over the results to Congress within days. If he refuses, lawmakers say he’ll be hauled in to testify under oath.
The extraordinary demand follows a bombshell report alleging Patel has engaged in excessive drinking and erratic behavior serious enough to alarm officials inside Donald Trump’s own administration.
Lawmakers didn’t mince words about the stakes. They warned the allegations point to a “pattern of habitual alcohol abuse” that could pose a serious national security risk, raising concerns that the FBI director could be vulnerable to coercion or compromised decision-making.
The test lawmakers are demanding includes pointed questions about drinking habits and whether alcohol has interfered with job performance—answers they want submitted under penalty of perjury by an end-of-month deadline.

Patel, however, is digging in.
He has already filed a massive $250 million defamation lawsuit against the journalists behind the report and is dismissing the allegations as “fake news.” Speaking publicly, Patel insisted he has “never been intoxicated on the job” and dared critics to take him to court.
But Democrats aren’t backing down—and they’re now pressing Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan to join the التحقيق, signaling they want bipartisan scrutiny of Patel’s conduct.
Behind the scenes, concerns have reportedly been building for months, with allegations of unexplained absences and heavy drinking both in Washington, D.C., and in Patel’s home base of Las Vegas.
Even Trump himself has reportedly taken notice, allegedly confronting Patel after viral footage showed him drinking heavily during a public celebration with athletes.
Now, with a formal investigation underway and a ticking deadline, Patel is facing mounting pressure to answer a simple but explosive question: is the man running the FBI fit for the job—or a liability at the highest levels of government?
