The House select committee investigating the 6 January attack on the US Capitol is reportedly set to reveal “surprising new material” during their next hearing tomorrow, committee member Zoe Lofgren told CNN Tuesday evening.
The lawmaker said the new material was gleaned from a flood of recent testimony and evidence.
“We’re going to be going through, really some of what we’ve already found,” Lofgren told the news network. “But augmenting with new material that we’ve discovered through our work throughout this summer.”
Thursday’s hearing could be the final session before the select committee presents its report on the MAGA-fueled attack on the US Capitol.
The Jan. 6 committee is expected to zero in on the planning of the attack and the 187 minutes that then-president Donald Trump could have called off the mob but chose not to and instead welcomed the violence.
Plenty of timelines have sketched out how most of January 6 unfolded, but for more than 3 hours, Trump went dark as a mob attacked the U.S. Capitol. The new material could reveal what Trump was doing and who was he communicating with during that time.
The new hearing comes as the Department of Justice has asked the Supreme Court to refrain from intervening in an ongoing criminal investigation into former president Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents.
