Congressman Jim Jordan, who has openly targeted Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg over the indictment of Donald Trump, sparked an avalanche of mockery for “playing the victim” after Bragg filed a lawsuit against the Ohio Republican for interfering with New York’s judicial authority.
Bragg’s lawsuit came after Jordan demanded that Bragg appear before the House Judiciary Committee to answer questions about Trump’s indictment, even though Congress has no oversight over his office.
The lawsuit slams Jordan and the Committee for launching an “unconstitutional” campaign to “intimate and attack” the D.A.’s office after Trump was indicted.
“…Rather than allowing the criminal process to proceed in the ordinary course, Chairman Jordan and the Committee are participating in a campaign of intimidation, retaliation, and obstruction,” the suit states.
Jordan responded in a tweet, writing: “First, they indict a president for no crime. Then, they sue to block congressional oversight when we ask questions about the federal funds they say they used to do it.”
What Jordan keeps ignoring is that the grand jury voted on the indictment, not Bragg. At the same time, because the case involves a secret grand jury, Bragg couldn’t tell Jordan anything anyway.
By law, no information can be revealed about the grand jury by lawyers or jurors. And the “federal funds” that Jordan keeps mentioning is the cash that the state government gets as a whole and what is spent by the D.A.’s office.
Bragg’s general counsel, Leslie Dubeck, said last week that just $5,000 in federal funds was spent on the case involving the Trump Org. and Donald Trump between Oct. 2019 and Aug. 2021. Most of that, they said, went to Supreme Court litigation. None of the money used in the Trump case came from the federal grants probe and the 2023 fiscal year budget shows just $2 million from Washington.
But Jordan is ignoring these facts in order to appease Trump and his MAGA followers on social media.
Naturally, Twitter users had a lot to say about Jordan’s response. Check some of the reactions below.
First, they indict a president for no crime.
Then, they sue to block congressional oversight when we ask questions about the federal funds they say they used to do it.

First, you chose to ignore sexual assault against students in your charge.
Then you weaponized your Congressional power to obstruct justice.

You have no oversight authority over state investigations. Have you forgotten that the GOP is supposed to support separation of powers and federalism?

Then, a lying clown takes to social media to distort and mischaracterize the whole thing and act like the first guy is some kind of benevolent Saint.
Then, most of us LAUGH our asses of at how goddamn ridiculous that is.
Then, an election happens and you guys get wiped out.

Do you know what criminals do, Jim? They try to discredit the prosecutors.
What did you talk to Donald Trump about on January 6? pic.twitter.com/N9UHrVFHic

The DA's office already replied to you:

Just like Fox News, you tell your customers whatever they want to hear. Literally nothing in this tweet is true, but all that matters to you is that your people believe it to be true.
