Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville says Donald Trump’s presidency may not end with triumph, dominance, or even defiance. He says it could end with Trump simply giving up and walking away.

Speaking on his “Politics War Room” podcast Tuesday, Carville unleashed a profanity-filled prediction about what happens if Republicans suffer a devastating defeat in the 2026 midterms — and he made clear he believes that outcome is not only possible, but necessary.

“We have to do everything we can to be sure that he is not just defeated, that he is humiliated,” Carville said.

The longtime Democratic strategist argued that voters need to send such an overwhelming rejection of Trumpism that the political movement collapses under the weight of public disgust.

“That he knows how much this country hates him for what he has done to this country,” Carville continued.

Carville wasn’t talking about a normal election loss.

He called for what he described as “a staggering, breathtaking, comprehensive and total defeat of Trumpism” in the upcoming midterms.

And then came the part that immediately exploded online.

Carville predicted that if Trump still “has his wits about him,” the pressure, backlash, and political misery could eventually become unbearable.

“He’ll get the fuck out of there and leave, because his life is gonna be so goddamn miserable, he won’t know what to do,” Carville said.

The blunt remarks quickly spread across social media, where anti-Trump users cheered the comments while MAGA supporters predictably melted down over them.

Carville also mocked Republicans who accuse Trump critics of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” saying he is actually “proud of it.”

For Carville, the bigger issue is not simply beating Trump electorally, but fully discrediting the political culture built around him.

That’s because many Democrats increasingly believe Trumpism survives not through policy success, but through intimidation, spectacle, grievance politics, and the perception of strength.

Which is why Carville argued that merely squeaking out victories will not be enough.

He wants Republicans politically crushed.

The comments also reflect growing Democratic optimism heading into the midterms as Republicans face internal chaos, worsening polling, economic anxiety, and backlash over Trump’s increasingly extreme rhetoric and legal controversies.

Recent Republican primaries have already exposed fractures inside the GOP, while multiple polls show growing concern among voters about Trump’s handling of the economy, foreign conflicts, and democratic norms.

Carville clearly believes the political environment is moving toward a breaking point.

And judging by his comments, he thinks Trump’s presidency may ultimately end not with some dramatic final battle — but with a miserable, isolated president realizing the country has turned against him.
