A former top FBI official is raising red flags over a “suspicious” and “curious” moment in Ghislaine Maxwell’s interview with Trump’s Justice Department.

Andrew McCabe, who was the FBI’s deputy director from 2016 to 2018, appeared on CNN’s OutFront Friday night to talk about the two-day meeting between Maxwell and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Host Erin Burnett pointed out something odd: Maxwell brought up Donald Trump without being asked — and did so with glowing praise.

“He didn’t even have to ask about him for her to bring him up,” Burnett said. “And then we played some of the things she went on to say in the most glowing terms, you know, calling him president, not by his name.”

McCabe didn’t see that as a fluke.

“Yeah, I just think the entire thing, Erin, is so curious. It’s so suspicious,” McCabe said. “When you listen to the tapes, you get the sense that Ghislaine Maxwell went into that room knowing what information she had to deliver to get their attention and to get their approval and to get some sort of benefit that she is pursuing from the administration.”

He said Blanche, on the other hand, seemed to know exactly what he was there to hear.

“Which was what she was going to say about Donald Trump’s involvement or noninvolvement. And both sides delivered to each other’s satisfaction,” McCabe said.

He agreed that Maxwell’s praise of Trump wasn’t accidental. It looked like she was playing directly to what Trump wants.

McCabe also found it alarming that no FBI agents or investigators were present in the room — extremely unusual for a high-stakes interview like this.

“It’s recorded and then immediately released to the public, which is not something you would ever do with the testimony of somebody who you were considering turning into a cooperator,” he said.

“Nothing about this process was conventional or normal, but it does seem that both the administration and Ghislaine Maxwell got exactly what they wanted from it,” McCabe concluded.
