President Donald Trump’s economic policies are facing growing criticism from voters, according to a new poll released on Sunday.

The CBS News poll shows that most Americans are unhappy with the president’s handling of the economy. Only 23 percent of voters now believe Trump’s economic policies are making them “better off,” a sharp drop from 42 percent in January.

Meanwhile, 42 percent of voters now feel Trump’s policies are making them “worse off,” up from 28 percent earlier this year. This marks a significant shift, with a 33-point swing in opinion. In January, more people thought they were “better off” under Trump’s policies by a 14-point margin, but now that group is trailing by 19 points.

Many voters also think Trump’s priorities are off track. Sixty-four percent of Americans believe the Trump administration isn’t doing enough to lower prices, while 55 percent say it is focusing too much on tariffs. Almost half (47 percent) of voters think tariffs will lead to higher prices in the long run, while 72 percent expect short-term price hikes.

A report from Politico on Saturday revealed confusion within the White House as the administration prepares to implement global tariffs on April 2.

“No one knows what the [heck] is going on,” said a person close to Trump, speaking anonymously to Politico. “What are they going to tariff? Who are they going to tariff and at what rates? The basic questions haven’t been answered yet.”

The CBS News poll also shows that Trump’s approval rating on the economy has dropped to a negative 52-48. However, his overall job approval rating is split 50-50, with his positive approval on immigration (53-47) helping maintain his overall standing.

One other key finding from the poll: When asked if federal judges should be allowed to review Trump’s policies, a majority of Republicans (56-44) agreed. This was also supported by 93 percent of Democrats and 81 percent of independents.
