A federal judge has temporarily stopped President Trump’s order that aimed to end birthright citizenship for the children of many immigrants, calling it “blatantly unconstitutional.” The ruling is a big setback for one of the president’s first major actions in office.

Trump’s order clashed with the U.S. Constitution, which gives citizenship to anyone born in the country and sparked lawsuits from 22 states and various civil rights groups.

U.S. District Court Judge John Coughenour sided with Washington and 17 other states, agreeing to block the order from going into effect.

“I’ve been on the bench for over four decades. I can’t remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one. This is a blatantly unconstitutional order,” Coughenour said during the hearing, according to CNN.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
