In yet another humiliating blow for Vladimir Putin, a Russian brigade commander was deliberately killed by his own troops amid anger at mounting losses among troops in Ukraine, The Times of London reported Friday citing a Western intelligence official.
Colonel Yuri Medvedev, who was commanding the 37th Motor Rifle Brigade was deliberately run over, according to the official.
“The brigade commander was killed by his own troops, we believe, as a consequence of the scale of losses that have been taken by his brigade,” the official said.
Ukrainian media reports said that the colonel had been targeted by a loan soldier who run him over with a tank.
The western official also said that a lieutenant general commanding the 49th Combined Arms Army has also died in the fighting, making him the seventh Russian general to be killed in combat since the invasion began.
