Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) tore into the Trump White House during an MSNBC interview, after a disturbing social media post from an official Trump account made its rounds online.
The post featured a fake New York Times headline, mocking Kilmer Abrego Garcia — who is currently being held in a maximum-security prison in El Salvador. The altered image claimed Garcia is “never coming back,” celebrating his continued incarceration.
Speaking to MSNBC host Katie Phang, Crockett was visibly shocked.
“One of my colleagues actually put this post up in a group chat and I was like, ‘Okay, this isn’t real, right?'” she said. “Because it was just a picture. And then she was like, ‘No, it’s absolutely real.’ And I was like, ‘Who are we and where are we living? And who is running this country?'”
Crockett didn’t mince words. She called the post childish and cruel — and warned it could come back to haunt the Trump administration in court.
“Like Katie, you and I both know that ultimately, this is not the last that we have seen of this post,” Crockett said. “This post will most likely show up in some court filing when they are trying to determine whether or not this court has –– or I’m sorry –– this administration has intentionally decided that it wanted to ignore a court order.”
She added, “This will most likely show up in a contempt hearing, so I don’t know why, I don’t know who’s advising or I don’t know if they really do care.”
The post, coming from an official Trump White House account, isn’t just another meme — it could be legal evidence, and a sign of what Crockett described as a disturbing shift in political norms.
