In a wild start to 2024, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to make bombastic claims about presidential immunity and threw around outrageous allegations of “crimes” committed by President Joe Biden.
Trump, ever the self-made victim, insisted that if he’s not shielded by Presidential Immunity, then “Crooked Joe Biden” should brace himself for prosecution over his “many” crimes.
“REMEMBER, if I don’t have Presidential Immunity, then Crooked Joe Biden doesn’t have it either, and he would certainly be Prosecuted for his many ACTUAL CRIMES,” Trump wrote.
Adding a touch of absurdity to the political circus, Trump’s 2024 Republican Party rivals chimed in, pledging to don the presidential pardon cape for the former commander-in-chief if they win the race. It’s like a game of political tag with clemency powers.
With 91 criminal charges, many at the federal level, Trump’s fate may hinge on the chief executive’s authority to grant clemency. Both Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley have indicated that such clemency would be in the nation’s best interest.
Concerns also loom for Trump regarding potential rulings by conservative Supreme Court justices against his candidacy in two states, based on the 14th Amendment’s prohibition on insurrectionists holding public office. Advisers to Trump are reportedly set to file challenges to these decisions in Colorado and Maine as early as Tuesday, according to multiple reports
