Former President Donald Trump has escalated his ongoing feud with mainstream media by threatening the broadcast license of CBS and its flagship program, 60 Minutes, following an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump’s latest tirade, made on his social media platform Truth Social, accuses the network of employing deceptive editing practices to manipulate Harris’s responses and present her in a more favorable light.
In a lengthy post, Trump described the interview as a “cut and paste” job, alleging that the producers of 60 Minutes had “sliced and diced” Harris’s “incoherent answers” in an effort to make her look “more Presidential.”
“I’ve never seen this before,” Trump declared before blasting the broadcast as “illegal.”
“The producers of 60 Minutes sliced and diced (“cut and pasted”) Lyin’ Kamala’s answers to questions, which were virtually incoherent, over and over again, some by as many as four times in a single sentence or thought, all in an effort, possibly illegal as part of the “News Division,” which must be licensed, to make her look “more Presidential,” or a least, better.”
The former president’s tirade continued as he claimed that the alleged manipulation constituted a potential “major Campaign Finance Violation” and a “stain on the reputation of 60 Minutes” that would tarnish the program’s legacy. He demanded “a MAJOR AND IMMEDIATE APOLOGY!” from the network and called for an investigation into the matter, labeling it an example of “FAKE NEWS.”
This latest threat follows Trump’s earlier comments regarding potential retribution against other major networks, including NBC and ABC, should he reclaim the presidency in the 2024 election. Trump has consistently criticized news outlets for what he perceives as biased coverage and has previously suggested that reporters who fact-check him should face jail time.
