President Donald Trump has launched another blistering attack on a federal judge who blocked the administration’s plan to deport Venezuelan gang members. His rant came after a rare rebuke from Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
Trump blasted U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg on Truth Social, writing, “If a President doesn’t have the right to throw murderers, and other criminals, out of our Country because a Radical Left Lunatic Judge wants to assume the role of President, then our Country is in very big trouble, and destined to fail!”
Boasberg’s decision over the weekend forced the administration to turn around flights carrying Venezuelan migrants with alleged ties to the Tren de Aragua gang. The administration insisted the flights were already outside U.S. airspace when the judge ruled, and argued that Boasberg didn’t have the authority to interfere.
Trump called the ruling “terrible” in a Fox News interview on Tuesday, adding that it was “not for a local judge to be making that determination.”
The attack on Boasberg escalated when Trump called for the judge’s impeachment, sparking an unusual response from Chief Justice Roberts.
Roberts defended the judicial process, saying, “For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.”
Trump responded by pointing out that Roberts hadn’t named him directly in his comments.
