In remarks likely to raise alarms globally, Donald Trump said Tuesday that he anticipates resuming U.S. military strikes against Iran—even as the possibility of a peace agreement remains within reach.
Speaking in a phone interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Trump was asked whether ongoing negotiations might justify extending the current ceasefire, which is set to expire Wednesday. His response was blunt—and revealing.
“Well, I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with,” Trump said, signaling a hardline stance that appears to dismiss diplomacy as a primary path forward. “But we’re ready to go. I mean, the military is raring to go.”
The comments suggest Trump is not inclined to give talks more time, even with a potential deal looming. Instead, he appears to be leaning into a strategy of pressure through force—raising questions about whether the fragile ceasefire stands any real chance of survival.
With tensions already high, Trump’s comments are likely to intensify concerns about a renewed escalation in the region—and whether diplomacy is being sidelined at a critical moment.
