Donald Trump launched a furious attack on Senate Democrats late Sunday night, accusing them of deliberately sabotaging his administration’s ability to hit the ground running by intentionally delaying the confirmation of his key cabinet nominees. Without presenting any proof, the president blasted his political rivals, claiming they were mocking the nation’s safety while blocking his picks.

“Democrats are purposefully delaying virtually all of my Nominees,” Trump fumed in a post on his Truth Social platform. “No matter how good and well-qualified someone is, they are taking maximum time for approval – and laughing about it. They’re having a good time at the Country’s expense and safety.”

Trump took his grievances a step further, adding: “If George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were nominated for a position, the Democrats would take it out to the last moment before having to approve. It is disgraceful!”

The president’s anger stemmed from what he perceives as a deliberate effort to undermine his administration’s momentum, calling it “disgraceful” and citing what he claims is the Democrats’ inability to get over the “landslide loss” in the 2024 presidential election.

“They can’t get over the landslide loss suffered in the Presidential Election,” Trump said. “But the Democrats don’t understand, with what they’re doing, that their losses will only get greater.”

The president also called on Republicans to “GET TOUGH – AND MUST GET TOUGH VERY FAST.” He urged his party to act quickly to get his nominees confirmed, framing the situation as a matter of national security.

As of now, the Senate has only confirmed eight of Trump’s 22 nominees, including figures like Marco Rubio for Secretary of State, Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary, and Kristi Noem for Homeland Security Secretary. However, key figures like Pam Bondi for Attorney General, as well as controversial choices such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence, and Kash Patel for FBI Director, remain stalled.

While this delay is frustrating for Trump, it is part of the constitutional duty of the Senate to thoroughly vet nominees, including conducting background checks and addressing any concerns raised by lawmakers regarding qualifications, past statements, or potential conflicts of interest. There is no evidence to support the president’s accusations that Democrats are intentionally obstructing his choices. The delays are a normal part of the confirmation process, designed to ensure that nominees are fit for office.

Despite not having his full team in place, Trump has wasted little time in setting an aggressive agenda for his second term, signing a flurry of executive orders, launching a fierce attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring policies, and sparking a trade war with Canada, Mexico, and China. His actions have already led to retaliatory measures that could harm American consumers.
