President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the Secret Service will no longer provide protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, the children of former President Joe Biden.
“Please be advised that, effective immediately, Hunter Biden will no longer receive Secret Service protection. Likewise, Ashley Biden, who has 13 agents, will be taken off the list,” Trump shared on Truth Social.
Earlier that day, Trump had been asked about Hunter Biden’s security while in South Africa. He hinted that he would remove the protection, and his announcement came soon after.
This move follows a pattern where Trump has taken away security details from those who have criticized him or opposed his policies. Secret Service protection is usually given to individuals facing confirmed safety threats.
Trump had previously removed security for other well-known figures who disagreed with him, including former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, former national security adviser John Bolton, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and former Iran envoy Brian Hook.
The Biden family has been a frequent target of criticism from Republicans, with Hunter Biden often being at the center of GOP attacks. Trump has led these claims, accusing Hunter of being involved in business dealings with his father—allegations that Joe Biden has denied. Trump allies have also circulated controversial photos of Hunter Biden.
