President Donald Trump issued a stark warning over the weekend, saying that if the courts don’t support his trade policies, it could lead to the collapse of the United States economy.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump said a court ruling against his power to impose tariffs would be a disaster for the country.
“If the Courts somehow rule against us on Tariffs, which is not expected, that would allow other Countries to hold our Nation hostage with their anti-American Tariffs that they would use against us,” Trump wrote.
He followed up with a grim prediction: “This would mean the Economic ruination of the United States of America!”
The comment comes after a federal judge—appointed by Trump himself—ruled that some of the tariffs his administration imposed were illegal. Trump didn’t hold back, blasting the conservative legal group that helped guide his judicial picks.
“I am so disappointed in The Federalist Society because of the bad advice they gave me on numerous Judicial Nominations,” he wrote on Thursday.

Trump’s latest remarks send a clear message: he sees any legal limits on his authority as not just a political loss, but a threat to the entire country. His words draw a line—either the courts rule in his favor, or the U.S. pays the price.
