Former President Donald Trump on Thursday slammed the US women’s soccer team as “leftist maniacs” after they failed to make the gold medal game and won a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, blaming their elimination on their progressive politics.
“If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze,” Trump said in a statement sent to reporters.
“Woke means you lose, everything that is woke goes bad, and our soccer team certainly has. There were, however, a few Patriots standing. Unfortunately, they need more than that respecting our Country and National Anthem,” he added.
Trump concluded his statement by taking aim at American superstar Megan Rapinoe, calling her “the woman with the purple hair” and saying she “played terribly despite the fact she netted two huge goals and was the game’s leading scorer.

“They should replace the wokesters with Patriots and start winning again. The woman with the purple hair played terribly and spends too much time thinking about Radical Left politics and not doing her job!” he said as he finished off his rant.
The US team arrived in Tokyo aiming to get the gold but lost 1-0 to Canada in the semifinal.
“That bronze means so much,” US captain Becky Sauerbrunn said after the game. “It feels like we really had to earn that thing. And we’re very proud of it.”
