Donald Trump is now selling red “Trump 2028” hats — the clearest sign yet that he’s toying with the idea of a third term in office, despite the U.S. Constitution banning it.
The Trump Organization launched the $50 hats on its online store Thursday. The first product description read: “The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat.” The wording quickly raised eyebrows, as “rewrite the rules” seemed to hint at going beyond the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, which clearly states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
Later, the description was quietly changed to: “Make a statement with this Made in America Trump 2028 hat. Fully embroidered with a snap closure in the back, this will become your new go-to hat.”
The red cap looks almost identical to the iconic “Make America Great Again” hat that helped fuel Trump’s first campaign. There’s no clear explanation in the listing whether the 2028 branding is a nod to Trump himself trying again — or a family member like Donald Jr. or Eric stepping in.
Eric Trump didn’t say much, but he did post a photo on X Thursday morning wearing the new hat and linking to the Trump Store.
Meanwhile, Trump continues to float the idea of a third run. He hasn’t directly declared anything — but he’s far from shutting it down. In an interview with NBC News on March 30, he said: “I’m not joking. I’m not joking.” He also added: “It is far too early to think about it.”
Earlier, after winning reelection, Trump told House Republicans: “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say, ‘He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out.’”
More recently, he told reporters there are “methods” that could make a third term happen. He didn’t explain what those are.
Asked for comment, the White House pointed to the Trump Organization, which hasn’t responded.
