Donald Trump on Friday suggested that “death and destruction” would follow if he is charged with a crime amid multiple investigations into his actions.
Trump’s warning came in a post on his Truth Social network, in which he once again slammed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for investigating his hush-money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election.
“What kind of person can charge another person, in this case a former President of the United States, who got more votes than any sitting President in history, and leading candidate (by far!) for the Republican Party nomination, with a Crime, when it is known by all that NO Crime has been committed, & also known that potential death & destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our Country?” Trump fumed.
He added: “Why and who would do such a thing? Only a degenerate psychopath that truely (sic) hates the USA!”
This is not the first time the former president has suggested the prospect of violence in an apparent effort to dissuade the Manhattan DA from filing charges.
Trump has previously called on his supporters to “protest and take our country back” if he is charged with a crime.
The escalation in violent rhetoric is reminiscent of Trump inciting hundreds of his supporters to launch a violent assault on the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021.
